ROYAL (School of Motoring), was started in 1981 by Martin Ferid opening an office in Camberwell shortly after.
This was at a time long before speed humps & traffic cameras.
Most people were picked up from the office in South London and the AA were only a breakdown service, no plumbers or driving instructors yet.
BSM were independent and the benchmark, providing tuition throughout the UK.
Word of mouth spread and the school grew.
In 1987 the government launched ADITE (Approved Driving Instructor Training Establishments), which was a recommended register for training driving instructors.

To prepare for the theory test the Driving & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) recommend that all candidates study the Highway Code, know Your Traffic Signs and the relevant books from DSA's Driving Skills series.
