More Theory Test information.
Candidates will be shown 14 Video Clips on a computer screen, each lasting approx 45 seconds, captured from a moving car.
You must click the mouse to identify 15 "developing hazards" in total, ie one Video Clip will contain 2 developing hazards.
Each clip may contain several ordinary hazards, but candidates should only click the mouse for those hazards which start to develop into a more serious situation, ie a "developing" or real hazard.
After checking your licence and ID, the examiner will conduct an Eyesight Check.
You must be able to read a car number plate from a distance of 20.5 metres, (non english-speakers may write down the number plate on a piece of paper).
The test will last approximately 40 minutes, and will include at least 2 out of the 3 manoeuvres you will have learned i.e.
Turn in the Road, Reverse Parking, and Reverse around a Corner.
You may also be asked to perform an Emergency Stop.
You are allowed to make up to 15 minor driving faults, but no major fault, which the examiner considers to have been either dangerous or potentially serious.
Pass Plus is a 6 hour course of instruction focusing in greater depth on the safety aspects of driving, to be taken after the Practical Driving Test has been passed.
Taking further instruction in responsible and safe driving is highly recommended, as statistics show that newly-passed drivers are far more likely to have an accident in the first two years of driving.
It comprises 6 one hour training modules (there is no test), upon completion of which you receive a Certificate.
The Certificate entitles you to receive discounts on the cost of car insurance from many insurance companies, on the basis that anyone responsible enough to have 6 further hours of safety training, including motorways, is seen as a better insurance risk, hence lower premiums.
Before the driving test starts, you will be asked 2 questions from the list below, one "Show Me" question, and one "Tell Me" question.
A wrong answer will result in one minor fault on the driving test.
Identify where the windscreen washer reservoir is and tell me how you would check the windscreen washer level.
Operate brake pedal, make use of reflections in windows, garage doors etc, or ask someone to help.
Show me / explain how you would check that the power assisted steering is working before starting a journey.
Many people from time to time want to brush up on their driving skills.
Perhaps they might be a full licence holder who has been away from driving for some time, or maybe someone who has lost confidence in a particular aspect of driving, such as Roundabouts, say, or Dual Carriageways, or Parking.
Have no fear!
Calm and patient tuition, tailored to your needs, can quickly restore confidence and reduce nervousness!
Foreign licence holders too, perhaps new to our roads, are also very welcome to telephone for a few hours of instruction.
