According to the Driving Standards Agency, an average of 47 hours of lessons and 22 hours of private practice is required to get through the test. There are two parts to the driving test - the theory (approx 31) and the practical test (approx 62) - and you need to pass both to obtain a licence.

Manual cars have a manual gearbox, and the driver is responsible for changing gears as and when they reduce their speed, prepare to stop or accelerate.
Automatic cars have an automatic gearbox, which means that as a driver, you don't have to change gear as frequently.
If you need a licence fast, the Fast Pass course could be your route to salvation.
This is the intensive driving course for new drivers who urgently need a licence for work, or who have a couple of weeks free (student holiday, annual leave, temporary lay-off etc).
